Our Story

Starting with 2 children in 1949, today Bala Mandir houses over 300 orphan and destitute children, from a newborn child to 18 years. Over the many years of its existence, Bala Mandir has sheltered many thousands of such children, providing them with holistic and all-round development.

Milestones

1949 – Bala Mandir is founded; The Foundling Home.

1951 – The Bala Mandir Nursery School begins – to cater to the educational needs of the Toddlers growing up (being raised) in Bala Mandir. 1951 – Bala Mandir becomes “Children’s Home”.

Key Contributors

Distressed with the plight of orphan and destitute and abandoned children in the post independence era and inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and along with Late Sri.K.Kamaraj, Smt.S.Manjubhashini established Bala Mandir on 10th March 1949.
