Bala Mandir School Expansion & Modernisation Project – 23rd March 2026

Bala Mandir Kamaraj Trust inaugurated the School Expansion & Modernisation Project at Satyamurthi Higher Secondary School, located at the Bala Mandir campus at No 1, Giriyappa Roadin T. Nagar, Chennai on the 23rd March, 2026.

The project marks an important milestone in the institution’s efforts to provide quality and holistic education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as the surrounding community.

The inauguration was held in the presence of the Guests of Honour, Ms. Praveena Yagnambhat, Chief of Staff & CSR Head, Boeing India and South Asia; Mr. K.G. Venkataramanan, Chief Financial Officer, Saint-Gobain India Private Limited (SGIPL); and Mr. Manoj Sonthalia, Trustee, Bala Mandir Kamaraj Trust.

Established in 1949, Bala Mandir has been working for the care, protection and education of children in need.

The Bala Mandir Schools currently has around 400 students and aims to expand its capacity to about 800 students in the coming years. The school follows an English medium curriculum and does not charge any tuition fees. It is fully supported through charitable contributions and institutional funding. 

The newly expanded infrastructure has been designed to support holistic education, combining academics with opportunities in science, sports, arts and values-based learning. The school includes modern classrooms, science laboratories, a STEM learning facility, sports infrastructure and a 450+ seater auditorium for cultural and other activities.

In addition to academic learning, the school provides free breakfast, lunch and evening snacks for all students. An after-school programme offers children opportunities for sports and co-curricular activities, while also providing additional academic support and remedial learning where required.

The School Expansion project with a total cost of approximately ₹16 crorehas been made possible with generous support from Braade Stiftung (Denmark), Saint-Gobain India Pvt Ltd,  Aptus Value Housing Finance India Ltd and Boeing India Pvt Ltd, along with other well-wishers of the institution.
