BALU SIR SUMMER CAMP – 16th May 2026

The children from the BM home and the School children from the surrounding urban slum take part in this camp every year and are taught various art forms. This year – 2026, the camp was held from 4th May to 16th May.

The inaugural function for the Senior camp was held on 4th May at the BM Cultural Centre, while the inauguration of the Junior camp was held on 2nd May. The Toddlers and KG/Creche children were included in the Junior camp. Members from BM attended both the functions and started the camp after the traditional lighting of lamp.

One of the most noteworthy initiatives of this year’s summer programme was the collaboration with the School Education Department and the Directorate of Public Libraries through the Anna Centenary Library’s Kodai Kondattam programme, which was conducted for 30 days. After obtaining permission from the department, our younger children were taken to Anna Centenary Library to participate in three special sessions.

The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Ms. Sandhya Rao, a renowned children’s author, book editor, and member of the Wise Owl Club. She addressed the gathering and captivated the audience with her popular “Ekki Dokki” storytelling session. Her engaging storytelling style brought joy and excitement to the children, who thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session. The audience appreciated her ability to inspire imagination and creativity among young minds.

The Summer Camp concluded with a grand Valedictory Function on 16.05.2026. During the programme, the children proudly showcased the skills they had acquired through dance performance Vanna Mayil Yerum Murugan devotional song and displayed their drawings and craft creations in an exhibition arranged in the cultural hall. The exhibition received appreciation from staff members, guests, and visitors.

The Summer Camp was a memorable and enriching experience for all participants. It provided opportunities for children to develop their talents, build confidence, learn new skills, and engage in meaningful recreational activities during their vacation
