The Balu Sir Summer Camp, a yearly event, was conducted from the 1 st to 11 th of May this year. As a new initiative, children from 2 Tamil Nadu Government Children’s Home participated in the camp.
The camp was inaugurated on 1 st May, 2024, with children lighting the Lamp and Ms. Chitra Krishnan, Director BM Home addressing the group, highlighting Balu Sir’s dedication and involvement with the children. The children sang some of Balu Sir’s favorite songs.
The camp was divided into a Junior Camp consisting of 63 children from LKG to Standard II and a Senior Camp for 76 children from Standard III to VIII that included 12 children from the Bala Mandir Centre for Special Children (MNC) and 9 from a Government Boys’ Home and 7 from a Government Girls’ Home.
Children in both the Junior and Senior Camps enjoyed their activities which consisted of Art, Craft, Drawing, Games, Mime and Dance.
The Valedictory Function for the Summer Camp was held on 11 th May. The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. Churchill Joseph , Member-Child Welfare Committee – South and Central Tamil Nadu Government. He is also the Founder & Managing Director of – Dr. John Joseph Foundation.
Arts and craft that the children had learnt to make in the camp were displayed in the hall, which was highly appreciated by the Chief Guest and all the audience. The children also sang a song that was composed and set to tune by one of the Bala Mandir staff, Ms. Mary. The children performed a Mime with a theme – “Overcoming
Obstacles and Victory in Sports” which provided valuable lessons in understanding the difference between failure and Success.
Certificates were given to all children who attended the camp as a token of appreciation and mementos to the resource persons by the Chief Guest who had a lively interaction with all the children present and the Bala Mandir Senior Management.
The Home staff, the senior girls in the Home and teachers of Vidyalaya who were deputed to the camp did a fantabulous job in ensuring the smooth running of the Camp.
