The Balu Sir Summer Camp, a yearly event, was conducted between the 1st and 13th of May this year.
The programme that day, started on a somber note with bhajans being sung by the Bala Mandir children instead of the traditional inaugural ceremony, due to the sudden demise of one of our very old members Mrs. Punitha Ramalingam, that morning.
A total of 114 children participated that included children from the BM Home, both our schools and also from MNC and Kinship for the first time this year.
They were divided into the Junior camp for the KG to Std. II and Senior Camp for Std. III to VIII. The activities included Art, Craft, Theater, Mime and Dance and the children from both the age groups enjoyed themselves very much.
The Valedictory Function for the Summer Camp was held on the 13th May. The Chief Guests for the function were Ms. Sarada Jagan and Mr. M. S. Jagan, who apart from been long-time donors of Bala Mandir are now partnering with us for the Happy Reading Programme for the children.
The children showcased all that they had learnt during these two weeks. The junior camp children performed two dances and the senior camp children performed a semi-classical and a tribal dance.
The theme for the skit this year was – “How to convert disasters to strengths through team Work”, wherein the children showcased their talent through dialogue delivery and their actions with expression. The children who performed in the Mime gave us insights into the theme of “Living in Harmony,” which provided valuable lessons on unity, understanding and helping each other. Both were well appreciated by the audience. In the art and craft sessions the children learnt various art forms like – flower fish, quilling, jewellery- making etc.
Certificates were given to all children who attended the camp as a token of appreciation and mementos to the resource persons, by the Chief Guests, who had a lively interaction with all the children present.
The Home staff, the senior girls in the Home, and teachers of the Vidyalaya school who were deputed to the camp did an admirable job in ensuring the smooth running of the camp.
